In December of 2008, I was honored to be named to the Ten Top Women of Dayton. I have been asked for my speech by a few people and felt it appropriate to open my blog by sharing it with you here. I think it sets the tone for you to see how I think and what it is that truly inspires me. So, here’s my speech…
It is an honor and a privilege to be here. I’d like to share with you today what it is that truly inspires me.
You see I have been blessed with starting and growing a local children’s charity that benefits thousands of children each year. Yet, it may come as a surprise to many of you that helping these children is not my inspiration, but a benefit of that inspiration.
Like any other journey, it has become more meaningful because of the special people in my life who have shared this trip with me thus far. For my true inspiration is empowering others to make a difference. Helping a child in need is very simply the product of that empowerment. I enjoy learning about people and empowering them so that they may give back - to give of their time, their talents and their treasures to help those less fortunate.
There are those I have shared the vision of Hannah’s Treasure Chest, who in turn have encouraged me to pursue the vision of helping others in need. These special people have offered their own vision and support, sometimes weekly, daily and even hourly. They have celebrated our victories and they have shared in our defeats. They have taught me to believe it can be done and then joined me to achieve that vision. They have been empowered and I have been inspired.
There are those I have shared the vision of Hannah’s, which in turn have given an endless number of hours to help those in need. These special people love what they do and share a special camaraderie. For they have become the family of Hannah’s Treasure Chest. Their labor is one of love and they have taught me that the only way you can truly get more out of life is to give part of yourself away. They have been empowered through passion to give back and I have been inspired.
There are those I have shared the vision of Hannah’s, which in turn have contributed funds so that we could use it as a tool to be a force for good and to change the lives of others. These special people have given to those they have never met. Their giving has taught me to continue my journey that expands as we travel together. They have been empowered to make a difference through the use of their treasures and I have been inspired.
Many of these special people are here with me today and continue to dream with me about the future impact we will make in the lives of others. Their vivid dreams, faith and encouragement have taught me to see into the future. Together they have been my inspiration as I have been able to encourage and empower each of them to make a difference in the lives of those in need and I have been inspired.
