About Pops Pages
Pops Pages makes personalized coloring books out of your own family photos. You upload a handful of pictures, we redraw them as thick-outlined line art, and you get a book where the child colors in their own family instead of a stranger. There's also a growing set of free printable sheets that anyone can use without an account.
Who makes this
Pops Pages is a small independent business, not a big company with a content team. That has an upside and a downside. The upside is that the person who decides what ships is the same person who looks at the drawings. The downside is that we're slower than a big company, and if something goes wrong you may wait a day for a reply rather than a minute.
We're new. We're not going to pretend otherwise by claiming thousands of happy customers or awards we haven't won. If you buy something early on, you're one of the first, and we'd genuinely rather hear about a problem than not.
How the books are made
The drawings are made with AI, and then checked by a person. We'd rather say that plainly on the page than leave you to work it out.
In practice it works like this. Your photo goes to an AI image model, which redraws it as black-and-white cartoon line art — keeping faces recognizable while dropping the shading, the clutter and the busy background. That output is then processed here: forced to pure black on pure white so a crayon can't bleed through a soft grey edge, thickened so the outlines suit small hands, and traced to vector paths so the page stays sharp at any size instead of going fuzzy at print resolution.
An automated check rejects pages that come back near-blank, near-black, or that have traced photographic texture instead of drawing it. That check is coarse on purpose: it catches disasters, it doesn't catch a page that's merely mediocre. That part is still a person looking at the result.
The free printable sheets are made the same way, except there's no photo — they start from a written description. Each one is looked at afterwards and labelled with what it shows and roughly how fiddly it is, so you can pick one that matches the child in front of you rather than printing six to find out.
What we won't draw
No licensed or trademarked characters, ever — not on the free sheets and not in a book. Plenty of "free coloring page" sites are quietly full of them. We'd rather target a generic princess, dinosaur or friendly ghost and be able to stand behind every page on the site.
Printing and delivery
A digital book is a PDF you download and print at home. Ordinary printer paper is fine for crayons and colored pencils; if you're using felt tips, expect some bleed-through and print single-sided.
A printed book is produced by a print-on-demand printer and shipped directly to you — we don't hold stock or handle the books ourselves. The printer only ever receives the finished line art and the delivery address. Your original photographs are never sent to them. The privacy policy lists every company that touches a photo, and is specific about what we can and can't undo if you ask us to delete something.
